Sentimental items
The clothes your baby was wearing when you took him home from hospital. Or how about photos, birthday cards, diplomas, drawings given to you by nephews/ nieces/ children/ grandchildren. These are perfect examples of things you own for their sentimental value to you, for the memories attached to them.
These are the hardest things you can encounter when you’re in the process of deciding what you want to keep. My advise when you find those sentimental items during your tidying process is to put them to the side and not deal with them then and there. Gather all of them in one spot so they won’t end up all over your house, and you will be able to locate them easily when the time comes to look at them.
Why would you put them to the side and wait until later? Well… have you ever gotten a box of photos out to “quickly” look for one? I’m guessing you know why I wrote “quickly” like that, it almost never is ;) So when you find yourself holding one of those things that hold sentimental value for you and you take time looking at it and talking about it, you will end up daydreaming and probably won’t do much more tidying that day…
So gather all your personal treasures in one spot and later on in the process you will be able to give them the attention they deserve. Then just continue sorting through the items of the category you were dealing with. Good luck!
By the way, if you feel like you won’t ever be able to deal with all of those sentimental items just send me a message. I would love to help you out!
